¡Voy a Sobrevivir! / I will Survive!

In this project we created survival guides for different countries.  I choose to do Perú.   The survival guide included different scenarios that a person might encounter in that county.  To do this we did research online and had a country contact that told us about the different customs and lingo that you might hear or see in your country.  To wrap up this project we got into groups of two and performed a skit that we wrote that showed some of the language or custom of whatever country you choose.

La Reflexión / The Reflection
La parte más difícil fue creando el formato de la guía de supervivencia.  Fue difícil porque mucho tiempo.  También no estoy  orgulloso  de la parte artístico de mi guía de supervivencia. 

The most difficult part was creating the format of the survival guide.  It was difficult because it took a lot of time.  Also I am not proud of the artistic part of my survival guide. 

La parte más divertida fue la sátira.  Me gustaba la  colaboración con mi amiga.  También fue muy interesante representar a la exhibición.
The part that was the most fun was the skit.  I liked the collaboration with my friend.  Also it was very exciting to perform at the exhibition.      

Estoy orgulloso de la sátira este escribí.  Es gracioso y creativo.  Me gusta la gracia en la sátira.     
I am proud of the skit that I wrote.  It is funny and creative.  I like the humor in the skit.

Aprendí  mucho como Perú y la cultura de Perú.  Hay comida única en Perú como el cuy. 
I learned a lot about Perú and the culture of Perú.  There is unique food in Perú like guinea pig.

Project Description:
For this project we were put into groups of three or four and told to create a video in Spanish.  In this video we had to choose one of the grammar topics that we learned over the course of the semester to teach to the audience.  It did not have to explicitly teach the grammar topic, but your video had to possess a lot of your chosen grammar topic and you had to use it correctly.  These videos could be almost anything you wanted.  Also each group member had to create an interactive work sheet to go with the video.  They were designed to help the watcher get more out of the video.

Reflexión:

La parte más difícil fue escribiendo el guion.  Este fue donde tuvimos a usar mucho español.  Fue también difícil porque tres personas fueron trabajando en un guion.  La parte más divertida fue creando nuestros videos ridículos.  Fue divertirse porque vestimos en ropas gracioso y hicimos las galletas.  Estoy orgullos de la final escena de nuestros videos porque es la parte el más gracioso.  También estoy orgullos de nuestros guiones porque lo enseña personas como a hace las galletas y enseña un tema de gramática.  Aprendí como a trabajar en un grupo largo.  Aprendí otra vez como la usar de ser y estar.  Finalmente aprendí eso Skyler hace un sonido parecido Chewbacca.                                
The most difficult part of was writing the script.  This was where we had to use a lot of Spanish.  It was also difficult because three people were working on one script.  The part that was the most fun was creating the ridiculous videos.  It was fun because we dressed in funny clothes and made cookies. I am proud of the final scene do our video because it the most funny.  Also I am proud of our script because it teaches people how to make cookies and teaches a grammatical topic.  I learned how to work in a large group.  I learned again about the uses of ser and estar.  Finally I learned that Skyler makes a sound like Chewbacca.

Informe de "La Jaula de Oro"

            Para este trabajo estudié el corrido "La Jaula de Oro".  Es sobre el choque entre la cultura mexicana y la cultura de los Estados Unidos, específicamente el choque entre los padres inmigrantes y los niños quien han vivido en Estados Unidos todas sus vidas.  Escogí este corrido porque este problema extiende a muchas personas de razas diferentes y persones de tiempos diferentes.  Es un problema universal.  Es interesante ver una perspectiva nueva:  la perspectiva de un hombre quien ama México y quiere volver.
            Niños de inmigrantes quienes nacieron en un país diferente, no son ciudadanos.  Crecían en Estados Unidos y tienen la cultura de los Estados Unidos pero no son legales.  Los inmigrantes ilegales tienen derechos limitados.  Al cumplir dieciocho años, sus oportunidades educativas mueren.  Se hacen criminales en la mente del gobierno de los Estados Unidos.  Unas de las cosas que no pueden tener son: las becas, la habilidad de asistir a una universidad, el derecho de tener un carné de conducir, y un numero de seguridad social.  También, viven en miedo (Glick). 
            Los derechos de inmigrantes ilegales son un problema pero el tema que vemos en el corrido "La Jaula d Oro" está dentro de las familias inmigrantes.  Los niños tienen la cultura de los Estados Unidos y sus padres tienen la cultura mexicana.  Los niños están atrapados entre dos mundos.  En el libro Snow Falling on Cedars Hatsue, una chica japonés-estadounidense chica tiene padres que son inmigrantes.  Ella lucha con su identidad como una americana y la cultura de su familia (Guterson).  Este libro muestra la perspectiva contraria del corrido.  La chica está luchando contra la cultura de su familia y la cultura de su país mientras el hombre está luchando contra la cultura de los Estado Unidos.
            Este corrido es sobre los sentimientos que este hombre se sentía viviendo con los Estados Unidos.  En el corrido él dice que el dinero no es importante si tiene que vivir con miedo.  Esto es una perspectiva importante ver.   El corrido "La Jaula Oro" es una mirada de la vida de un inmigrante mexicano.

Hola amigos, bienvenidos!
Esto es un cuento sobre un chico
atrapado entre los dos mundos,
 buenos pero diferentes mundos.


Hello friends, welcome!
This is a story about a boy
trapped between two worlds,
good but different worlds.


Un mundo era México picante,
 el otro era Estados Unidos.
Uno era su casa querida
y el otro era su origen. 

One world was spicy Mexico,
 the other was the United State
One was his beloved home
and the other was his origin.

  
A padre le encantaba  México
pero chico no recordó el país
que su padre nunca se olvida;
 la cultura y las tradiciones.

His father loved Mexico
but the boy does not remember the country
that his father could never forget;
the culture and traditions.


Él era americano pero
él se parecía mexicano.
Cómo podía esta grande parte
de él ser tan tan extranjero?

He was American but
he looked Mexican.
How could this huge part
of him be so foreign?

Le encantan Estados Unidos
Él llamaba Estados Unidos
la tierra bonita de oro

Corridos Project Reflection
                Throughout history people have found ways to communicate and tell stories.  For some it was sketches on a cave wall, for others a dance, for the people of Mexico often it was music.  A corrido is a song used by the Mexican people to communicate news or a story.  In this modern age most people are literate, but in the time when corridos were most popular a lot of the population was illiterate.  Corridos would be passed from singer to singer and therefore the news would spread throughout the country.  Though corridos no longer have a prominent place in society, they still are sung more as a cultural tradition.  I studied a more modern  corrido called La Juala de Oro that was about immigration.  I chose this corrido because I find the topic of immigration fascinating.  It is a topic that stretches throughout history and amongst many races. 
                I chose to do a painting for my project piece, mostly because it is something I love to do.  It is something that is challenging for me but I really love to do it.   I originally was going to try and paint a golden cage to show the metaphor in La Juala de Oro of being trapped in a cage of gold, but I realized quickly that that was a little beyond my artistic capabilities.  I decided on a simpler design.  A painting that represented more the corrido I wrote than the corrido I studied.  I knew I could draw a flag so I used flags to  represent the United States and Mexico.  I then put a boy between the two flags, being torn between the two worlds.  It portrayed how this boy who had lived in the U. S. practically his whole life is trapped between the culture of his family and heritage and the culture of the U. S. and his friends. 
                From writing my report and my corrido I solidified by understanding of how to conjugate in the preterit and imperfect tenses.  I had to go back and change a bunch of words from the present to the past and this gave me a lot of practice.  I had to remember a bunch of adjectives because it was a way to add to my syllable count.  It helped my understanding of the preterit and imperfect usage a little more.  It still needs a lot more work but it's getting there.  In the Mexican-American war, the U.S.  won and took a lot of Mexico's land through the Treaty of Guadalupe.  However the people living on this land were still Mexican citizens and treated as immigrants.  The Mexican revolution was filled with violence and turmoil.  The U.S. plays this game of hot and cold with Mexican immigrants.  They would need them in times of war but then accuse them of taking American's jobs when the war was over.  The hardest part of this project was probably finding white paint.  I know it sounds ridiculous but I went all over town searching for white paint and never found it.  I had to use spray paint.  What I did was spray a bunch into a bowl and use it really quickly before it dried.
